How To Design Kid Friendly Waiting Room Areas

Kid Friendly Waiting Room Areas

Can you try to imagine how kids feel when you drag them to the medical/dental office and make them sit around waiting for appointments? You bet you they really feel angry. This is surely the reason why they get so unruly and irritable at such places. You shouldn’t blame them. Most of the time all they need is something to get them distracted. Unfortunately, most offices don’t accommodate children, making the medical/dental office the worst place to be with a kid.

Luckily, we have a solution to this problem. By simply incorporating these few tips your office will transform into one likable place, both to adults and children, and you will no longer have to stress out whenever you have kid patients coming in. Here are some of the ways you can do this:

Make room for mini furniture

Want to give kids a comfortable time at your reception area? Why don’t you provide them with furniture they fit into well. Go all out and get them miniature tables as well. This way, when they come around they will also feel welcome and comfortable in furniture their size.

Don’t use chairs only

What we mean is that you could have a mixture of seats in your reception area, and not just the usual armchairs we have in the waiting rooms. Examples of such chairs include reception benches and ottomans. By doing this, you allow those patients who came in with their kids to seat with them which will make it easy for them to control them. In addition to that, you allow those that want to have their personal space to be able to do so. Try to use as different shapes as possible so that you can make your medical/dental office a fun and welcoming place for kids.

Bring in toys

For some, this may not seem like a good idea because of the upkeep of maintaining the toys clean. Nevertheless, toys are such a good and easy way to keep children busy as they wait their turn. Yes, you will have to clean the toys if you don’t want to spread diseases and germs, but it will definitely be a worthwhile way to ensure kids play quietly without disrupting other clients.

Alternatively, you could have the basic coloring books or activity sheets so that parents and their kids can play together. This is actually a great way to provide a sensible educational engagement rather than just creating a distraction.

Use screens wisely

While a TV could seem like a good way to create a distraction, you will also have to be extra careful about the kind of programs you air, and where the TV will be set up. Therefore, if you choose to have the TV make sure to incorporate educational programs and not just streaming cartoons only.

There are times when a parent may request to have the TV switched off because they feel the cartoon being shown is not appropriate for their children. Choose to respect such requests because TVs are not really beneficial for kids anyway.

With that said, make sure to have your medical office reception area design renovated or constructed to suit even young patients so that you can give both the parents and the kids an easy, relaxing time at your waiting room.
